(Romans 8:22 MSG) "The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it’s not only around us; it’s within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We’re also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don’t see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.”

This series is about how GOD is believed to communicate with us all. This next part is through (12) HOPE: Not wishful thinking: Hope is trust, not uncertainty.

A Scriptural hope is a confident, trust-filled expectation grounded in who GOD is and in His promises to us revealed in Scripture—not mere wishful thinking. It rests on GOD’s character (Faithfulness, Power, Love) and the sure work of Jesus, our Christ, so it endures difficulties and looks forward to GOD’s ultimate fulfilment.

Scripture tells us to “hope” for blessings we already have in Christ because those blessings are both present and unfinished.

  • Already vs. not-yet: believers possess salvation, the Spirit, and new life now, yet we await full redemption and glorification (Colossians 2:9–10; Romans 8:23–25).
  • Hope sustains us in suffering: hope anchors us through trials because the promised future is certain despite present hardship (2 Corinthians 4:16–18; Romans 5:3–5).
  • Assurance and longing: hope is both confident assurance and eager longing for GOD’s final work (Hebrews 6:18–19; 1 Peter 1:3–9).
  • Motivates holiness and perseverance: knowing the promise is real but not yet complete spurs growth, patience, and faithfulness (Titus 2:11–13; Philippians 3:20–21).

In simple terms: right now, we already have GOD’s promises in a very real way (forgiveness, the Holy Spirit, new life), but we’re still waiting for their full, visible completion (our bodies renewed, Heaven, our final victory).

So hope is the confident waiting between what we already possess and what will be fully revealed later.

Hebrews 6:19 — "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."

Let’s pray, “Heavenly Father, you are my firm and secure anchor. When storms of doubt, fear, or sorrow toss my heart, steady me on your Promise. Plant my hope deep in Christ, so I will not drift, strengthen my trust when waves rise, and teach me to rest in your faithfulness. Keep my soul anchored in your love until I stand safely in your presence.” Amen!
