(Psalm 119:105) “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."

  • 2. Prayer: Through personal communication and reflection with GOD.

Aim: Over time, many of us will share experiences of feeling that we have received messages from GOD through prayer. These encounters will often involve a sense of calm, insight, excitement, as well as responses to our inquiries and needs. As I’ve grown older in Christ, I've come to see that prayer revolves around confession, petition, as well as thanksgiving and praise. It's an incredibly important occasion of personal, intimate conversation with GOD, deepening our spiritual connection over time.

Unfortunately, prayer, like any language, cannot be imparted; it must be learned through personal experience. For example, it’s acceptable for a baby to make sounds that are unintelligible to most, and even though its mother will recognise these sounds as expressions of hunger, thirst, discomfort, fear, etc., she will not stop there. She will continually teach and refine the child's words until they are clearly understood by all. (NB- Praying in tongues will follow shortly ... )

Now remember what Jesus taught us: "Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3). This emphasizes that when we allow our ‘born again' child-like nature: humility, trust, openness and honesty to surface, then we will align our heart with GOD’s purpose and THAT my dear one is what GOD is looking for.

I hope you are now seeing that Prayer is fundamentally a relational covenant that, like the child, isn't there to pacify a wrathful GOD, but to change the person praying! A Covenant of Connection that truly aligns our hearts - not just with GOD's ears, but with His purposes!

Through this Covenant of prayer, we cultivate a personal relationship with the Risen Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, trusting Him to guide us and connect us with GOD and His intentions for us.

Ultimately, this means that GOD desires that we don’t go off on a tangent trying to do everything from our own perspective and without knowing what’s really behind the situation, but that we (like Jesus) seek guidance and understanding to fulfil GOD's purposes in our lives and others As Jesus taught us, in John 5:30: "By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me." This emphasises complete reliance on GOD's guidance.

Let us pray, "Heavenly Father, please help me understand what prayer means to You. Show me how it can bless You, me and those we love. Open my heart to Your guidance and purpose." Amen!
