Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Mat 28:18) As I understand it, the Greeks define their word Baptizo to mean the immersion of fruit or vegetables to be pickled. Simply put, if a cucumber was placed into a pickling solution and left then we all know it would end up as what we’d call a gherkin. But if it could jump out straight away, then it would be just a cucumber – albeit one smelling of vinegar and spices. Just as needing Jesus is a ‘daily’ requirement. So we’re not just called to have a one-off ‘shower’ in Christ Jesus. We’re called to ‘remain’ in Him. In His Presence. In close relationship. Lord, help me to stay put ‘in You!’ To quit jumping out of where you want me to be and be the Child you want me to be! Amen! X
