Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, “A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!” Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: “Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don’t let evil hurt me.” God gave him what he asked. (1 Chro‬ ‭4:9) When the Lord led me to this scripture this morning I thought ‘oh no,’ I’ve been here before and it didn’t end well. Why again Lord? Well, for those of us old enough to remember, this scripture did the rounds a few years ago. Books were written on this verse and many started to pray (and quote) it almost mantra style! Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land! Blah blah blah … I felt the Lord asking: “What happens when you cave in and let young children have anything and everything they ask for? Chaos right!?” “The communion of common unity (community) is where needs are met. Trust me in this.” Lord, no matter what age we are, we all begin by thinking we can handle ourselves well in all situations. Grace and Your Word tells me: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper!” So I’m content that the ONLY blessing and wall of protection I need is through YOUR loving arms around me. Amen. X
