Saturday

Today’s a bit different. Papà reminded me of a time a few years ago when I was going through a HUGE financial and personal trial. My business was dying and I felt so hurt and betrayed that depression seemed my only companion. In the meantime, my wife was booked on a training course for her job and said I should accompany her which meant that we got to eat and stay in a fancy hotel for free. The next morning while she headed off to her course I decided to go for a wander around the surrounding beach and cliffs. I was just about to head on out for a coffee when I really felt the Lord asking me to stay in the room and open the Bible! I felt ashamed, dirty and fearful! What did He want to say to me? I hadn’t really been in His Presence for ages and (to be honest) I blamed him constantly for all my problems …! Sulking, I flippantly opened the Bible and it turned to Job, chapter 36. He told me to read from verse 7 … Job 36:7 He withdraws not His eyes from the righteous (the upright in right standing with God); but He sets them forever with kings upon the throne, and they are exalted. And if they are bound in fetters [of adversity] and held by cords of affliction, Then He shows to them [the true character of] their deeds and their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly [with presumption and self-sufficiency]. He also opens their ears to instruction and discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity. If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy. I was gutted …!!! He then lead me further down to verse 16 … Job 36:16-21 “Oh, Job, don’t you see how God’s wooing you from the jaws of danger? How he’s drawing you into wide-open places‹ inviting you to feast at a table laden with blessings? And here you are laden with the guilt of the wicked, obsessed with putting the blame on God! Take heed, turn not to iniquity, for this [the iniquity of complaining against God] you have chosen rather than [submission in] affliction. By now I was sobbing … He then spoke to me very clearly :

Remember who you are … you are My son! X

If we boast that we have no sin, we’re only fooling ourselves and are strangers to the truth. But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time
