(Jesus speaking to the Pharisees) “You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It’s your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.” (Mat 12:34) I’ll never forget once listening to a girl in the office describing life at home with her mother. “She was fair – but wow was she strict!” She said. “I remember once calling my younger brother stupid! My mother jumped up from the table as if I’d sworn and pointing to the door demanded that I left the room and that I was ‘grounded’ to my bedroom!” She said she was fuming with anger and said to her Mother. “But I only called him stupid!” Her mother retorted “It’s not what you ‘said,’ it’s what you meant by it!” Imagine if we allowed the Holy Spirit to correct us in this way …? Hallelujah! X

This resurrection life you received from God … It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” (Rom 8:15 MSG) I was chatting about this over lunch with a friend yester
