Day 89/365
GOD keeps an eye on his friends, his ears pick up every moan and groan. (Psalm 34:15)
This brings to mind the love a mother has, particularly for a newborn baby. Whereas most new fathers just freeze or run around in ever decreasing circles at the smallest moan or groan, the mother seem to work through an invisible bond that reassures and relives the child almost instantly.
Add to that the almost instantaneous relief a child feels just by being picked up and hugged by its mother and we can get somewhere near to the truth of just how love is supposed to bless us.
Some will try and convince us that Christian love isn’t ‘soppy’ or ‘sloppy.’ Well I’m not convinced by that stiff upper-lip stoic attitude. Because the Love I see that Jesus portrayed certainly was. He didn’t distance himself – he got down with the hurting, reached out and touched them. He didn’t just quote instructions – he comforted. He didn’t put down the weak – he reassured. He even wanted children (with all their noise and fizz) to be able to come to him – and berated people for holding them back because they thought he was ‘too important’ or ‘too busy!’
Jesus cried, groaned and sighed … He loved!
“Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.” (John 13:34 MSG). ❤️
