When crowds of people came out for baptism because it was the popular thing to do, John exploded: “Brood of snakes! What do you think you’re doing slithering down here to the river? Do you think a little water on your snakeskins is going to deflect God’s judgment? It’s your life that must change, not your skin. (Luke 3:7)
How many times have I heard this message and yet, (like the proverbial dog), have run back to the vomit of ‘my’ choices! “Oh it’s all too much.” “I’m too busy just now.” ”I can’t be bothered today, maybe tomorrow ...!”
The thing is, GOD doesn’t want us to change for ‘His’ good - He wants us to change for ‘our’ good.
He knows the destination of the path we’ve lazily chosen to walk on AND the awful consequences.
(Jesus speaking) “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Mat 11:28) ❤️
