Day 301/365
“By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man–not by sacrificial offerings], iniquity is purged out of the heart, and by the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil.” (Proverbs 16:6 AMPC)
20 years ago I began running a Media company. One day as I was chatting to our head of HR she told me of her concerns regarding some of the technical guys as many of them were constantly taking excessive time off for sickness.
I attended church with one of the guys and noticed his absence. This guy used to practically run the youth group and so I enquired after him with his wife who told me that she was concerned for him as he was deeply into online gaming and would often spend all night on it!
I don’t really understand all the enticements of gaming, but I did see that he was horribly addicted to it and if he wasn’t getting any sleep then he couldn’t possibly come to work. We found out that there were about 20 of them that played and the best part was that they’d placed the software onto the company’s own servers!
Anyway, I had the whole lot purged and made it very clear that this was not acceptable behaviour. We offered help through HR (and prayer) and many took it - unfortunately some didn’t and decided to leave.
