Don’t just go shopping for a god. Gods are not for sale. I swear I’ll never treat god-names like brand-names. (Psalm 16:4)
Some voices would have us believe that ultimately all the gods that are worshipped on Earth are the same. Actually, Jesus tells us that’s not the case and shows us that GOD clearly manifested himself in Jesus:
“You’ve been with me all this time, Philip, and you still don’t understand? To see me is to see the Father. So how can you ask, ‘Where
Open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders. I’m a stranger in these parts; give me clear directions.
My soul is starved and hungry, ravenous!— insatiable for your nourishing commands. (Psalm 119:17)
When we allow ourselves to close our eyes to the ‘but what if’s’ of fear and honestly embrace the beautiful possibilities of life in our Fathers Presence, then what we call the super-natural will become as natural as it was for Jesus.
Remember how you were when you didn’t know God, led from one phony god to another, never knowing what you were doing, just doing it because everybody else did it?
It’s different in this life. God wants us to use our intelligence, to seek to understand as well as we can.
For instance, by using your heads, you know perfectly well that the Spirit of God would never prompt anyone to say “Jesus be damned!” Nor would anyone be inclined to say “Jesus is Master!” without the
Your Redeemer GOD says: “I left you, but only for a moment. Now, with enormous compassion, I’m bringing you back. In an outburst of anger I turned my back on you— but only for a moment. It’s with lasting love that I’m tenderly caring for you.
This exile is just like the days of Noah for me: I promised then that the waters of Noah would never again flood the earth. I’m promising now no more anger, no more dressing you down. For even if the mountains walk away and the hills
Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to GOD! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor GOD with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.
(Jesus praying) “… I have made Your Name known to them and revealed Your character and Your very Self, and I will continue to make [You] known, that the love which You have bestowed upon Me may be in them [felt in their hearts] and that I [Myself] may be in them.” (John 17:26)
Another day of choosing just what lives in our hearts … bitterness, yuk and depressive thoughts – or Jesus (with all the overcoming Peace and Power that He brings …)!
Holy Spirit, I pray Your
GOD, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course. Give me insight so I can do what you tell me— my whole life one long, obedient response. Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway! Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot. Divert my eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate me on the pilgrim way. Affirm your promises to me— promises made to all who fear you. Deflect the harsh words of my critics— but what you
…Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the O
Going a little ahead, he fell on his face, praying, “My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. You, what do you want?” (Matt 26:39)
(Oswald Chambers wrote) The disciples were scattered to their own concerns and they had interests apart from Jesus Christ. After we have the perfect relationship with God, through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, our faith must be exercised in the realities of everyday life. We will be scattered, n
Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, end
“If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship GOD, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship GOD.” (Joshua 24:15). Papà says: “Child of mine, I have given you the gift of free will – the gift of ‘choice’! As such there are temptations which will turn your head to liste
…let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves. And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God! We’re able to stretch our hands ou
People with their minds set on you, you keep completely whole, Steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don’t quit. (Isa 26:3). You really only have two options today … 1. Quit – (and then have to deal with the never ending yukky consequences) 2. Hang onto Papà (who knows the way out) and keep going until you get through. Holy Spirit help us to choose wisely. Give in to God, come to terms with him and everything will turn out just fine. Let him tell you what to do; take his words to heart. Come back to God Almighty and he’ll rebuild your life. Clean house of everything evil. Relax your grip on your money and abandon your gold-plated luxury. God Almighty will be your treasure, more wealth than you can imagine. (Job 22:21). …dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. (Col 3:12). Papà says: “I am your covering. I will protect you from all that comes against you. Child of Mine choose Me!” X #cho
Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father ev
Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you. (Eph 4:30). It seems that the things that break Papà’s heart and ultimately separate us from the peace of unity
Jesus said, “What can I do for you?” (Matt 20:51). A friend at Hillsong sent me this word yesterday morning. At first I thought ‘whoopee’ and my mind launched into ‘stuff I really need mode!’ Then I got thinking … if I really did get all the stuff I wanted then would I really search for Him in that area any more? Health? Peace? Finances? Love? Etc.? Bottom line, I know that we can claim all His blessings, but me – well I still struggle with choosing between Him and ‘things!’
It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness …But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives…like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in
